“demistifying and defining the different internet protols versions"

Whenever a device or devices connect to the internet, there is assigning of Unique numerical IP address that make it possible for device to connect to the web.

The following is a run down of the different IP protocols ( IPV4, IPV6 and the upcoming that resonate within the Blockchain technology IPFS.

IPV4

This is the fourth version of internet protocol. It was deployed for production in 1982 (by SATNET) & 1983 (by APRANET). It is defined as a 32-bit number consisting of dotted-decimal notation. Some IPV4 addresses are reserved for 'private network' and aren’t globally unique.

IPV6

Also defined as version 6. This addresses are 128-bit in length and consist of '8' 16-bit fields with each field bounded by a colon that consist of hexadecimal numbers.

IP FS

Full meaning as InterPlanetary File System. It is a protocol & peer-to-peer network for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. The primarily focus of IPFS to my understanding is more in relation to http and https. But a relation to Internet Protocol can be generated as decentralization as the main focus. It uses content-addressing to uniquely identify each file in a global namespace connecting all computing device. It can be leveraged to more efficiently store and share large files. It relies on cryptographic hashes.
